The Facebook Stock Story

So much talk about the Facebook stock decline in the last 2 days.

Facebook shares, launched at $38 each on Friday, fell 11% on Monday and a further 9% on Tuesday. The shares are now worth $31 each.

Ridiculous… and all the bad press is only going to hurt the Valley, which has been producing hundreds of companies build on Facebook.

Top Companies are not build on market speculation. They are built on great products. And surely, FB is the best in the business when it comes to social.

The question is, how can they monetize the traffic?

The solution behind this is not the ads on the right, but the power of Facebook Connect. Over a period of time, I see the platform challenging Adsense for the top publishing houses on the internet.

The Advantages?
- Single login so users dont have duplicate user accounts across publishers (WSJ,NYT etc etc)
- Better Demographics for publishers and advertisers

So for all those who’ve written off Facebook after the stock decline in the last 2 days… hold that thought :)

Some Businesses Care

I recently saw this awesome letter written by a 3 year old, and a business responds to it.

One word for it, refreshing.

Some businesses do care, and in a money-driven environment, its refreshing to see that a business can take time out and ‘be nice’ to their customers. A brilliant strategy for customer loyalty.

Well done Sainsbury’s!

The Most Useful Piece of Advice Yet

Got this advice quite sometime  back, but still holds good in every decision I make in corporate life.

Look around you. If you notice that people around you know more than you, you are at a good place.

Such situations mean only one thing. Learning.

Ice Cream Sandwich: Design Focus

So you all saw the launch of the Galaxy Nexus, the phone lovers must be really excited.

But this post is more about the design focus that my colleges at Google have put into ICS or Ice Cream Sandwich(Android 4.0). After using it, these are my views:

The design is beautiful, the experience seamless, and the performance… out of this world. Cant wait for you guys to see this!

Kudos Android Team! You guys are Rock stars!

9/11: 10 years on…

10 years after 3000 people were killed in the heart of the US, noting much has changed. Only got worse. Cost of wars post 9/11: 250,000 people have died directly from warfare. A whopping $3.7 Trillion spent.

And where does it end? This war cannot be won with guns and tanks. This war can only be won by winning hearts and minds. You can kill one person, but you cannot irradiate a methodology.

I said a whopping 3.7 Trillion was spent on wars post 9/11. Where is this money going?

Top company profiteering from post 9/11 wars:

  • Halliburton: According to MSN Money, Halliburton’s KBR, Inc. division bilked government agencies to the tune of $17.2 billion in Iraq war-related revenue from 2003-2006 alone. The then Vice President of America, Dick Cheney once head Halliburton. According to Cheney’s 2001 financial disclosure report, the vice president’s Halliburton benefits include three batches of stock options comprising 433,333 shares. Interesting :)
Lets hope the US concentrates on winning hearts and minds, rather than selling guns and oil.

Mr Jobs, you will be i-Missed…

“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come,” Jobs wrote in a letter to Apple employees.

The word ‘great’ and ‘innovation’ are probably 2 of the most misused words in corporate world. But one person that truly symbolizes these two is Steve Jobs. Its not an end of an era, its end of ‘the’ era…

More than me being worried about Apple, I’m worried about where this leaves us, Tech enthusiasts.

Hands down, the most charismatic man i grew up following, Mr Jobs, you will be ‘i-Missed’.
